The Center for Hope, set to open in Spring 2020, is a new addition to Wintersville United Methodist Church featuring a full-size basketball court, multi-purpose event space with raised stage, commercial kitchen, rentable meeting rooms and more amenities for the community.

This historic expansion of our church is not only for our congregation—it is for other groups and organizations to use in ways that benefit our community.

Since Wintersville United Methodist Church was founded in 1835, we have supported organizations outside our church walls—now, we need help to continue doing so in an even more impactful way.

History of the Center for Hope

For over 180 years, Wintersville United Methodist Church has existed to promote our core values of honoring Christ, worshipping meaningfully, welcoming and accepting all people, and serving our community. Believing for several years as a church that God had called us to take a major step forward in ministry and outreach, but not knowing exactly how—property adjacent to our church was anonymously purchased and donated to us in 2015.

Plans were carefully developed, guided by our Church Vision: to serve as a beacon of Christian love, compassion, and hope to our world. A physical expansion would provide space for fellowship, recreation, new ministries and community outreach initiatives, and a comprehensive update to our original 100 year-old building would improve accessibility and address areas facing deterioration.

Construction began on the $3.6M Center for Hope in Fall 2018 thanks to the generosity of our own church members who have already donated nearly $1.5M in cash and pledges.

We have arrived at a key moment for our future: An opportunity—and a challenge—to raise an additional $1M over a one-year period.

An exciting new time-sensitive match challenge has been issued by an anonymous community leader: If an additional $250,000 is raised by May 31, 2020 it will be matched 2:1. This means we will have another $750,000 toward the total cost of the Center for Hope, helping to greatly reduce financing costs and allowing us to put more dollars into serving our community.

We are asking for our community to support the Wintersville United Method Church Campaign for Hope in a big way. Your giving makes a huge difference in our ministry and outreach, now and for future generations.

How You Can Help

There are a variety of exciting giving opportunities that are scalable to meet any level of generosity. Many naming opportunities remain throughout the Center for Hope, including naming the auditorium, basketball court, commercial kitchen and meeting rooms. There are also opportunities to memorialize or honor the lives of loved ones. For organizations needing routine meeting space at the Center for Hope, there are numerous giving opportunities with benefits that can be customized to meet your unique needs. For more information on how you can support the Center for Hope, contact us at (740) 264-1676 or info@wintersvilleumc.com.
